What We Believe
Why compassion?
Compassion begins with a simple recognition: other lives matter too.
When we genuinely care about the wellbeing of others, the circle of what matters to us begins to expand.
Beyond ourselves.
Beyond our families.
Beyond our nationality, race, religion or social group.
Eventually, even beyond our own species.
We begin to recognize that other human beings want happiness and freedom from suffering just as we do. Animals experience fear and pain. And the Earth isn't simply a collection of resources for us to consume, but the living system upon which all of us depend.
Compassion changes the question
“What can I get?”
“How can I help?”
Imagine a world in which more decisions—personal, political, environmental and economic—were made with genuine concern for the wellbeing of others.
There would still be problems.
But we believe there would be fewer problems created in the first place.
Less
Less cruelty. Less exploitation. Less indifference.
More
More generosity. More understanding. More responsibility for one another.
One compassion, three expressions
This is why Spirit Bright works across Humans, Animals and Earth. To us, they aren't separate causes — they are different expressions of the same compassion.

Humans
Other human beings want happiness and freedom from suffering just as we do.

Animals
Animals experience fear and pain. Their wellbeing matters too.

Earth
The Earth isn’t a collection of resources to consume, but the living system all of us depend on.
Compassion changes the lives it reaches. It also changes the person doing the reaching. That part surprised us, and it is where the next page starts.
We'll tell you who we met.
A few times a year, a letter from Sam about the people behind the work — a coffee stand on Soi 34, a school for blind children in Lopburi, two cows bought out of a slaughterhouse.
