An afternoon at a temple school in Lopburi

Tucked into the hills of Nong Muang in Lopburi, Tham Phu Pha Tham Charoen Suk is both a place of practice and a home for children. Seventy of them live and learn here. The school is under-supplied and has no electricity — the kind of place that is easy to overlook, and exactly the kind of place Spirit Bright wants to show up for.

So we showed up. On July 11th, our team arrived with a van full of supplies and spent the whole afternoon with the kids — laying everything out, handing it round, and playing games until the light started to fade.

What we brought

• Toothbrushes for every child — generously donated by our supporters
• Toys — dolls, stuffed animals, and plenty to play with
• School supplies — pencils, pens, notebooks and colouring books
• Food, snacks and cold drinks for a happy afternoon
• Candles for the temple, and coffee for the monks, teachers and elders

And then came the best part — the games. Sweets were handed out (“Is it good?” — “Very good!”), names were exchanged, and for one afternoon the whole place was full of noise and laughter. It is the simplest kind of giving, and often the most joyful: showing up, sharing what you have, and being present with people.
