Opening a door to the digital world

This is one of our earlier projects — completed before Spirit Bright was formally founded, but born of the very same conviction that carries our work today: that a good education can change the whole shape of a life. Deep in rural Battambang, Samlout High School served more than a thousand students, yet its one computer room held only outdated, broken machines — leaving young people to graduate into a computer-reliant world without ever having really used one.

Working alongside Child’s Dream Cambodia, we renovated the school’s tired computer room into a fully operational laboratory — bright, cool, and stocked with everything a real ICT class needs. Installation began in October 2022 and the finished lab opened its doors in June 2023.

Of the school’s 1,131 students(530 boys and 601 girls), more than 600 were in the upper grades — on the cusp of further study or the job market, and most of them had barely touched a keyboard. With the new lab, they can now learn the essential digital skills that open doors to further education and meaningful work.

What we provided

  • 31 new computers with internet access, plus 31 headsets
  • One printer, one LCD projector, and two air-conditioning units
  • New desks, chairs, and a full room renovation
  • Additional training for teachers to run the programme and care for the equipment
  • A maintenance and income-generation plan so the lab keeps running for years
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” — Nelson Mandela
