Standing With Child's Dream and the Children's Medical Fund

Some gifts change a classroom. Some change a season. And some change whether a child gets to grow up at all. This year, Spirit Bright is proud to stand behind a gift of the third kind — a donation to the Children's Medical Fund, run by our longtime partner Child's Dream, enough to support two life-saving surgeries for children who need them.

A Partner We Already Know and Trust

Child's Dream is a not-for-profit organization working across the Mekong Sub-Region — Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar — to empower marginalized children and youth through education and healthcare. This isn't a new relationship for us. Spirit Bright's very first project, a playground for the students of Trav Chuo Primary School in Cambodia, was built hand in hand with Child's Dream. We saw up close how carefully and honestly they work. So when it came time to support children's medical care, the choice was easy.

What the Children's Medical Fund Does

The Children's Medical Fund (CMF) helps children in the Mekong region access life-saving medical treatment and surgery that their families simply could not afford on their own. Many of the children it serves come from remote border communities and stateless families, often traveling from Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia to leading hospitals in northern Thailand for care they cannot receive at home.

A large part of the Fund's work supports children born with congenital heart conditions — coordinating and monitoring each case from the moment a child is enrolled, through surgery, all the way until they are safely home and well. It is patient, careful, one-child-at-a-time work.

The First Half of 2026, By the Numbers

Child's Dream recently shared their Children's Medical Fund Mid-Year Report, covering January to June 2026 — and the figures show exactly what this kind of giving makes possible:

  • 119 children's lives saved in just six months.
  • 115 new children welcomed into the programme, with 362 children supported in total.
  • 92% treatment success rate across the cases closed this period.
  • 2 new hospital partnerships, extending care into more communities.
  • 90 cents of every dollar goes directly to medical care — surgeries and treatment — with only a small fraction spent on overhead.

Most of these children are very young — many still babies and toddlers — and the majority travel from Myanmar and Laos to reach hospitals in northern Thailand for care they cannot get at home. The most common condition treated is congenital heart disease, alongside anorectal malformations and neural tube defects. To reach families who might otherwise go without, the programme also ran three outreach clinics this period, screening 243 children and identifying 88 who needed surgery.

Why This Gift

For a family with nothing to spare, the cost of a heart operation can feel impossibly far away. The Children's Medical Fund closes that gap. Our gift goes directly toward that mission — enough to support two life-saving surgeries this year, along with the treatment and careful coordination that gets a child from a remote village to an operating room and back home again. A gift like this goes the whole distance for a child in critical need — from the operating table to the day they go home, well.

It is the kind of giving that doesn't make a lot of noise. There's no ribbon to cut. But somewhere, a child will breathe easier, run harder, and grow up — because a community of people who will never meet them decided that their life was worth it.

One Child's Story

Among the children cared for this year was Eaint, a young girl from Mandalay, Myanmar. Diagnosed at age three with a large hole in her heart, she waited years for surgery because the cost was far beyond what her family could afford. After a long wait — and a journey across the border into Thailand — she finally underwent successful heart surgery, which closed the hole in her heart and repaired two of its valves.

Today she can walk on her own, breathe normally, and play like any other child. Inspired by the doctors who treated her, she now dreams of becoming a doctor one day, so she can help other children like herself.

This is what a gift to the Children's Medical Fund really makes possible: not just an operation, but a whole childhood — and everything that child will go on to become.

With Gratitude

Our deepest thanks to the team at Child's Dream for the years of honest, tireless work they pour into children who have so little margin for chance. It is an honor to stand beside you.

May every child reached by this Fund find their way to health — and may every hand that helped them get there be a little lighter for it.
