Cattle & Buffalo Sanctuary

Alongside Cattle Charity, Spirit Bright gives cows and buffalo rescued from the meat industry what they were never meant to have: a safe, peaceful life. Today 150 animals live here — and there's room to save more.

A second chance, and a home for life

Cattle Charity is a grassroots sanctuary in Khon Kaen, in Thailand's northeast. Every animal here was bought back from the meat industry and brought home to live out its days in safety — fed, treated, and cared for, no matter how long that takes.

In 2025, seasonal floods tore through the shelters and put the whole herd at risk. Rather than patch the damage, we rebuilt. Both original structures were raised above the flood line and rebuilt almost from scratch — new irrigation, new feeding troughs, solid floors — and a third shelter was built from the ground up to make room for more rescues.

The result: a sanctuary that can safely care for up to 250 animals for years to come. Now the need is steady support to keep it running — and to keep saying yes to the next animal on the truck.

The transformation

From flooded ruin to safe haven

When the 2025 floods swept through, the old shelters went underwater. Here is how the sanctuary came back — rebuilt, and raised above the water for good.

Before

The 2025 floods

The water swallowed the pens and troughs, leaving the herd standing in mud and the old wooden structures at breaking point.

Rebuilding, raised higher

We raised the ground above the flood line, rebuilt both original structures with new irrigation and feeding troughs, and built a third shelter from the ground up to make room for more rescues.

Rescuing a cow

Rescue a Life

Save one animal — for good

This isn't a one-time gesture. One gift takes an animal off the slaughter truck and gives it a whole life in the sanctuary — rescue, transport, food, and vet care, all covered.

The moment it all changes

The day an animal is bought back, it goes from a slaughter truck to a hand offering fresh grass. From that moment on it never has to be afraid again — it has food, shelter, and care for the rest of its life. That is what your gift makes possible.

Become a Herd Patron

Feed the whole herd for a month

Rescue is only the beginning — every animal needs feeding, every day. It costs about $3,000 a month to feed and care for all ~150 animals. One patron can cover a whole month.

A full month of food & vet care

$3,000

Covers hay, feed, and veterinary care for every animal in the sanctuary for one full month — the single most meaningful gift you can give the herd.

Want to give something smaller? Every bit keeps the troughs full.

Give any amount

Not ready to rescue a whole animal? Every gift helps buy feed, medicine, and care for the herd.

Spirit Bright is a registered 501(c)(3). All donations are tax-deductible.
